Storyboarding: Scream (1996)
For today's blog post I was tasked with the assignment of storyboarding a movie. For my movie, I chose Scream (1996). It is a personal favorite of mine so, I decided that this would be the perfect movie. You can probably tell, but this is my first time storyboarding. I loved doing it. Breaking down the movie and illustrating it was a lot of fun. Anyway, below is the opening scene I used to make the storyboard you see before you. Enjoy! :)
My Storyboard:
I've learned that storyboarding is an incredibly crucial part of the filmmaking process. It allows you to have a guide and visual representation of what the movie is going to look like before it's actually created. This allows you to brainstorm things like character placement, lighting, and audio. One challenge I had experienced when making my storyboard was trying to convey as much detail as possible in the little boxes. I am not an artist, so I tried my hardest for my readers to try to see what I was trying to show throughout my storyboard. Also, finding out where to shade for the different forms of lighting was a little difficult since I wanted the lighting and shadowing to be correct. I found it a little difficult to remember to describe the type of shot, what the character is doing, and the sounds we hear while simultaneously watching the movie. I think with practice, I can improve and it will become a little easier.
