We have 6 characters represented in our film. We included The Nerd, The Jock, The Artsy Girl, and The Rich Girl as the main characters and the police officer and detective as minor characters. We decided that we wanted to focus on the 4 characters to really develop their personalities. We decided for each character to play a stereotype. We wanted our audience to relate to a character so, we decided to really ensure that we get a taste of who are characters are in just 2 short minutes.

Yes, our film is stereotypical. As I stated before, our characters were based on basic high school stereotypes, but we wanted to put a twist on each one, so they didn't fall flat. For starters, with the Nerd (Tyler's character). Normally the nerd is very frail-looking, has braces, talks in a lisp, and is just overall very awkward. We decided to take the nerd stereotype and make it our own. For example, the nerd here does not have trouble public speaking, is tall, and seems more confident in himself. Similarly, Jacob plays The Jock. Normally, the jock is solely obsessed with his sport and his sport only, but we wanted to focus on his anger and short temper. Also with my character, we acknowledge my passion for art, but also highlighted my ambition and determination to "beat my rival" as my motivation. I think by expanding on the basic stereotypes we are representing them fairly.
We wanted to make this film for high schoolers. We wanted the audience to relate to a character based on their personality traits as well as root so to speak for a character. We wanted to represent that anyone from a high school nerd set on being the best of his class or a girl who just likes to share her art with the world could do the terrible crime of killing someone. We wanted people to take away that not everything is what it seems and not everyone is who they say they are.
If I could make any changes, I would make the characters seem very different when telling their story. For example, each character is very confident when they say that they did not commit the crime, but if it was any real high schooler they would be stuttering, shaking, even balling. So, I would give some of my characters those traits so they can all appear to be a little more different from one another. This may that every new interrogation scene would include a new, fresh reaction to it.
